Project 1: Digital Book Cover (Bitmap Imagery)

Project 1

This project involved creating a book cover using bitmap editing techniques. I began by importing the forked forest background and scaling it to 6x9 inches to match the book’s dimensions. I then added the cloaked figure as a new layer, carefully removing the background with the Select by Color Tool and Quick Mask. To create a misty atmosphere, I layered in a fog image, rotated it, adjusted its opacity, and blended it seamlessly with the background. Finally, I added the title and author text using bold serif fonts, ensuring clarity and visual emphasis.

To enhance the theme of choice, I duplicated the background and applied a blue gradient to highlight the dual paths, mirrored on the cloak. I added soft blue and yellow glows using the Paintbrush Tool and Gaussian Blur to create a magical, atmospheric effect. I refined the edges of the cloak, fog, and glows to ensure a cohesive composition. This project challenged me to combine multiple layers, selections, and effects while learning how to control opacity and blur for dramatic visual storytelling.

Project 2: Logo (Vector Imagery)

Project 2

For the logo design, I used vector graphics in Inkscape to create a circular composition that evokes warmth and unity, emphasizing a wood-fired cooking theme. I built the fork using rectangles for precise shapes, while the flame motif was created with the Bezier tool and refined with the Node Tool to simulate motion. The elements were carefully layered and angled diagonally to convey dynamic energy, reinforcing the brand’s fiery identity. Typography was added with a bold, rustic font, curving the text to fit the circular layout while maintaining legibility.

To enhance depth, I manually simulated a subtle drop shadow by duplicating and blurring layers. I integrated the fork and flame by erasing overlapping sections to give the illusion of the fork piercing through the fire. Once complete, I centered and grouped the design, resized the page to fit the drawing, and exported a high-resolution JPG for digital and print use. This project taught me how to combine precise vector construction, layering, and creative typography to produce a professional and visually impactful logo.
